A Little Bit Dungeon-y, Whole Lot Of Dragon-y

In Harley Quinn #62 we go back to a medieval fantasy world in which our dear heroine Harley Quinn finds herself in quite a mess. Continuing the story from issue 61, we pick up right where the last one left off. We have Harley, the other reality’s Catwoman, and The Enchantress who is behind the whole debacle! With Harley giving us a quick recap we are off, back to our land of knights and Queens, where things are getting hotter by the second.

A Majestic Stratagem

We come into the issue with Harley and Selina roped to the stake prepared to be burned as heretics. Selina and the other denizens of this reality are seeing that Harley may not be so crazy after all.

They have discovered that they only have until dawn to destroy the hourglass that Enchantress placed a spell on, which changed the reality of their world. If they fail, this reality will stay in the dark ages and Harley will have to face being the only person alive who remembers the real world.

This issue was really good. The story flowed well, given all the action sequences. My favorite moment was seeing Killer Croc, a dragon in this tale, rising up against the Enchantress. The artwork was astounding for this sequence and highly enjoyable. The laughs are fully worthwhile and timing is impeccable.

This issue showcases the team’s talents beautifully as writing, art, and lettering go hand in hand. This issue is the final part of a two part arc and does a genius job of closing one door and opening another.

Without giving away spoilers, I will say that I wished the door had stayed shut.

Sam Humphries has a way with words and flow that literally makes each issue a treat. The art team of Otto Schmidt and Dave Sharpe, with his crazy style of letters, make each page a work of art.

Throw in a few short stories by Meredith Clatterbuck, which are genius and their appearance as parts of the overall story are like icing we never knew we needed on the cake, and this issue pulled out all the stops, giving fans exactly the story the team wanted. I adored the fan service and all of the references.

Conclusion

This one is simply sublime and just a guilt free good time. The cover is gorgeous and the variant got a giggle from me too.  Harley Quinn #62 gets an easy 10 out of 10 from me.

With the Trials are still going for Harley and there’s still a lot of story left to go in order to reach the outcome. This series has been an absolute blast.
