James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ Lands Two New Stars

Article by Sam McTernan

That’s right, James Gunn is wasting no time and is already casting the stars of his Suicide Squad reboot.

First up joining the confirmed returning Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang and new addition Idris Elba, in as yet undisclosed role, is actor David Dastmalchian.

Dastmalchian is no stranger to comic book films, he’s has appeared as Kurt in Marvel’s Ant-Man and its sequel, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, Gotham and The CW’s The Flash as Abra Kadabra. So he’s well versed in the realms of super heroes and villains.

News has it that he’s been cast as Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad. This villain first appeared in Detective Comics #300 as Mister Polka Dot, committing crimes based around spots and dots. To further add to the bizarreness, he wears a suit covered in spots which, when removed, give him the ability to utilise them as flying saucers, on which to flee the scene of the crime. It will be interesting to see how James Gunn uses this unique character in the movie.

Joining Polka-Dot man is none other than Ratcatcher, played by actress Daniela Melchior. Depicted in the comics as Otis Flannegan with the ability to control rats, as well as the use of a gas gun that gives control over certain objects. Another off the wall character that will be more than welcome beside the rest of the squad, which is rumoured to also include King Shark.

I for one am very excited to see these characters on the big screen. It’s a welcome break from the norm of using the same well known characters over and over again. Not much is known about the plot yet, but I’m confident it will be as unique and outright weird as these villains.

Are you excited by these castings? Who else would you like to see in the movie? Let us know, we’d love to hear from you.
