The DC Universe platform may be in trouble, following some worrying news from the Swamp Thing production.
It’s believed that the entire production was shut down unexpectedly, something confirmed by Swamp Thing star Virginia Madsen. The actress took to Instagram to vent her frustration.
In a now deleted post she wrote:
I’m beyond sad. What a terrible decision. We have been cut to the core by those who have never set foot into the Swamp. And despite the rule I am going to use the hashtag. #swampthing”
Reports indicate that the Swamp Thing TV series has been reduced from its original 13-episode order down to 10. This is believed to be due to creative differences between the production and bosses at Warner Bros. led DC Universe, however the Series will still air on May 31st and DC Comics have even shared a teaser trailer.
Warner and DC Universe have declined comment thus far. However, with the news that Warner Media are planning a larger direct-to-consumer streaming platform, clearly a competitive measure with media giants Disney, Apple and Comcast, should fans be concerned about the future of DC Universe?
It’s rumoured that Warner would much rather have a sole streaming service and DC is currently a very niche platform as well, initially designed to compete with Marvel. It seems there is much bigger competition looming for DC and Warner Bros.
There is no official word on the future as yet, but with Titans and Harley Quinn planned for the service let’s hope that DC Universe is safe.
Do you use the platform and would you miss it if it was scrapped? Are you excited for Swamp Thing, even with fewer episodes? We’d love to hear your thoughts.
