Oscar Isaac Addresses Batman Casting Rumors

Ever since Ben Affleck stepped down from the role of Batman, the Internet has been ablaze with rumor and speculation of who would replace him as the 7th Batman on film.

Although there doesn’t seem to be a shortlist of potential actors to take on the billionaire playboy, that hasn’t stopped people from guessing who might be donning the cape and cowl next. With a new report coming out earlier this week that The Batman is allegedly going to begin filming this December, people are hungrier than ever for news on who will be the new Batman.

One actor that has been linked to the role, and ironically was set to play the role almost a decade ago in a now cancelled film, is Armie Hammer. He says he’s never been approached, but would “Jump at” the opportunity if called upon.

He isn’t the only big name actor who constantly pops up in reports, however. Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, X-Men: Apocalypse, Triple Frontier) has had his name frequently pop up as a candidate for the role, as well.

When asked about validity the rumor, Isaac had this to say:

No. I have only read it online like everyone else. I haven’t had any conversations about Batman, unfortunately, but I am sure it is going to be great. Matt Reeves is such a great director. Yeah, he can get my number.

Similar to Hammer, Isaac says that the rumor of him being Batman is just that, a rumor, but he would love the opportunity. Of course, who wouldn’t want to play the most badass superhero, if asked? It’s also worth nothing that Isaac recently starred in the Netflix original movie Triple Frontier with Ben Affleck, so who knows what Bat-conversations might’ve happened on set.

We still know very little about the project. WB has stated that they will be relying less on a shared universe in the future, with The Batman allegedly taking place in the 1990s. It’s also been hinted that Reeves is looking for a younger Batman than what we got with Affleck. Whether this is because it takes place before the events of Man of Steel or because Reeves is doing his own completely separate thing is unknown.

Whatever the truth may be, we still have plenty of time to enjoy the ride. The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
