Joker supporting actress Zazie Beetz has reported that the film constantly underwent script rewrites throughout production.
In an interview with MTV News, Beetz talked about the behind the scenes goings-on during filming. According to the actress much of the script was written almost on the spot, or the day prior.
[The] script was great. We rewrote the whole thing while we were shooting it. Literally, we would go into [director]Todd [Philip]’s trailer and then write the scene for the night and then do it.
Interestingly, the reason for a condensed shooting and scripting schedule had to do with the movie’s lead Joaquin Phoenix’s physique.
We had to do everything then because Joaquin had lost so much weight that we couldn’t do re-shoots later on, so we were figuring it out. But Todd’s quick at getting stuff done, so we always had extra time. Which was great.
It sounds like the shooting time table was truncated a little by Phoenix’s training and diet regimen. Hopefully, this news will allay fans’ concerns about the film being made haphazardly. Check out the entire interview below.
