As we comic fans move into the future, so too do the creators we know and love. After an extensive career spanning almost five decades, comic book legend George Perez recently announced his retirement from comic books. The announcement came in the form of a Facebook post, which can be seen in full below.
Perez has been suffering from health issues for a long time, so this announcement doesn’t come as too much of a shock, however it still hits hard.
It’s difficult to deny the influence and importance of Perez’s work over the past 45 years; he’s pencilled some of the biggest comic book heroes at both DC and Marvel, and worked with some of the most prolific writers in the industry.

Perez had a hand in some of the most influential comic books to ever come out of DC, including his run on New Teen Titans with Marv Wolfman, and then, with Wolfman again, a small comic you may have heard of – Crisis on Infinite Earths? Ringing any bells? Interestingly, Perez wasn’t intended to be the artist on that maxiseries, but after the fact stated that it was the most fun he ever had working on a book.
With only one more year of cons left to go, now is the perfect time to go and meet Perez before he starts his retirement properly in 2020.
