‘The Batman’ Casting News Rumored For This Year

While Matt Reeves’ solo Batman outing, known as The Batman, has appeared to be in development hell for the longest time, we finally have some news on… when we might get some news!

Recently, it was confirmed that Reeves had completed work on the script and that there are plans to start shooting by the end of 2019. With all of this coming up so soon, it seems unlikely that we will make it to even half-way through this year without some form of confirmation on Bent Affleck and his role in the film… or lack thereof.

The Rumor Mill

Initial rumors stated Affleck was out and that The Batman would either recast him entirely, or recast him with a younger actor and set the film years before his appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Other rumours say that Affleck will appear in the film as a flash-forward and feature a similar structure to Wonder Woman. This would, however, mean that all of the action takes place with a younger Wayne and Affleck would be benched, but that could certainly be interesting.

It’s still unknown what the future holds for this film, however Reeves has given little teases here and there, with one recently comparing the Bruce Wayne/Batman relationship to Jekyll and Hyde:

I think that it’s interesting, because one of the things that I’ve found interesting, just as we’re working on the story, is looking back at Jekyll and Hyde, and the idea of your shadow-self, and the idea of, we are all multiple things. It’s different aspects of who we are, and I think there are times when maybe the surface of Bruce is not really who he is, but that’s his disguise. There are times when Batman’s the disguise, but there are times when his true essence comes out, because by being veiled, a kind of instinctual side comes out that’s very pure.
