Cavill Possibly Out as Superman? Affleck Rumored To Follow

Cavill Was Scheduled To Cameo In Shazam!

Wanted: Actor to fill iconic role. Requirements: Must look like a superhero. Must not be afraid of wirework. May have to perform some stunts.

Henry Cavill, the actor who has portrayed Superman since Man of Steel (2013), is rumored to have walked away from the role that put him on the map. Cavill has played Superman in three films, including Batman v Superman (2016), and Justice League (2017). He was scheduled to reprise his role in next year’s Shazam! in a cameo. Supposedly, talks broke down between Cavil’s representatives and Warner Bros. which have allegedly led to his departure. The studio plans to move their efforts to a possible Supergirl movie, especially after the success of Wonder Woman (2017).

Cavill’s manager Dany Garcia recently Tweeted that the actor still has ownership of the famous red cape, and that WB will be making an official announcement shortly.

Will Affleck Be Next?

Fellow “Super Friend” Ben Affleck has also been rumored for quite some time to be vacating his role as the Dark Knight. With Cavill exiting, the writing could be on the wall for Affleck to bow out as well. Director Matt Reeves is set to direct The Batman soon, and word has it that he’s looking for a younger caped crusader.

Warner Bros. may also be looking for a more youthful Kal-El and, while the studio experienced mild success (if you can call it that) with Justice League, audiences took to the breakout performances by Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) and Jason Momoa (Aquaman) like a fish to water (bad joke intended). Momoa will return in Aquaman later this year, and Gadot is currently filming Wonder Woman 1984.
