Marc Maron To Join Joker Origin Movie

Comedian Marc Maron is set to join the Joker solo movie.

Maron seemingly confirmed the news on his WTF podcast. Maron has starred in Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Almost Famous, and most recently in GLOW. No further details on what role Maron will play was given.

In addition to Maron, the Joker movie boasts of an all-star cast, including Robert De Niro and Joaquin Phoenix. However, with the exception of Phoenix playing the Joker, nobody else has let on more details of their roles.

Maron v Comic Book Movies

Maron has an interesting history with comic book movies. On his WTF podcast, Maron famously bashed comic book movies as deteriorating cinematic cultural values. Not completely oblivious to the irony, Maron addressed it.

All right, well yes, it is true. It is true, people. It is true ladies and gentlemen. I have been added to the cast of the new Joker movie being directed by Todd Phillips, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Rober De Niro. Two of the greatest actors that have ever graced the screen…so given that this is the timing that this is where it’s at, once given the opportunity that it was going to happen, that I got this gig and I’m gonna do a couple of scenes maybe with Robert De Niro and Joaquin Phoenix, the next in the line of succession in great actors, f*** yes I’m going to do that. Of course, I’m going to do that.

Playing the Devil’s Advocate

In Maron’s defense, when he is referring to comic book movies, it is not because he hates them per se. He hates that less innovative, smaller Hollywood movies are being made, because studio money is being diverted to making the tentpole superhero blockbusters. So, being in the Joker solo flick does not necessarily make him a hypocrite.

Furthermore, the Joker film is not one of those ‘Big budget blockbuster movies in the form of superhero movies’.  It is reported to have a small budget with an emphasis of the noir drama. Not a tentpole blockbuster.

The Joker solo movie is set to hit theaters on October 4, 2019.
