Bruce Greenwood on Voicing Batman

Bruce Greenwood compared voicing Batman to playing the 35th US president John F. Kennedy.

Batman vs. JFK

In an interview with comicbook.com, Greenwood was asked which role did he prefer: Batman or John F. Kennedy. Jokingly, the actor replied that if they are doing a sequel, then he prefers Batman. In Greenwood’s 40+ years of acting, he played both Batman and the former president. He voiced Batman in Young JusticeBatman: Under the Red Hood, and most recently in Batman: Gotham By Gaslight. He played Kennedy in the period drama 13 Days.

Playing the Elseworld Batman

Greenwood revealed how unprepared he was for taking on the role of Batman. The veteran actor confessed he was not extremely familiar with the comic book source material.

“Before I did Batman I didn’t really realize how deep the lore was. I wasn’t really acquainted with how big the role was until I was suddenly in the shoes.”

When asked why he decided to take on an alternate version of Batman in Gotham By Gaslight, Greenwood praised the strength of the script.

“I read the script and I went, ‘ooh, this is kind of a different vibe,’ right?”

Batman: Gotham By Gaslight will be available on-demand on January 23, 2018, and on Blu-Ray February 6.
