One of the great things about Batman is how versatile a character he is. While sometimes he can be seen going toe to toe with gods such as Superman or Darkseid, his first and foremost mission always is to protect the innocents of Gotham. No matter what timeline or multiverse he finds himself in. This can be seen in a recently released clip from Batman: Gotham by Gaslight.
While Batman is trying to speak with some children, a thug who calls himself Big Bill tries to take down the nuisance that’s been making himself known around Gotham. Batman easily defeats Big Bill and tells the children to go home to their mothers. That’s when they reveal that they are orphans and the streets are their home and they’ll always belong to people like Big Bill. Batman does what he does best and inspires hope for a better future and tells them of a safe location they can go to. He then hears a scream and springs back into action. You can view the clip here:
