We have some encouraging news for fans of the DC Extended Universe. China is such a powerful force in pop and fan-culture. And so it is wicked news to hear that Justice League is doing phenomenal there.
The film’s opening day didn’t hit as big as Warner Bros. expected. However, in China, Justice League is knocking things out of the park! Comparing to films such as The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, and Wonder Woman, Justice League has become China’s highest-grossing DC film.
On its third weekend, Justice League pulled in $36.8M, pulling an international total of $569.2M. China makes up $98.6M of that profit.
Despite all the critical reviews of the fan-loved film, Justice League out-did Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Wonder Woman in China. Support like this is what keeps the DCEU going.
I believe that DC and Warner Bros. are going in the right direction as they develop their voice. The film carries action, quirks, and teamwork, perfect for all ages. Not to mention nostalgia. The film plays like a live-action episode of the Justice League, the animated 2004 series. If it continues to financially do well, DC fans might build towards a strong, sustainable live-action universe. The universe that hits all the right notes, and thus far, they’re not doing so bad.
The cast also showed much love during their press tour in China.
Justice League, directed by Zack Snyder starring Ben Affleck, Gal Gadon, Henry Cavil, Jason Mamoa, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher, now in theaters.
