Warner Bros. To Create a Batmobile VR Experience

Warner Bros. announced that it is partnering with Intel to create virtual reality technology to turn your car into the Batmobile.

With VR technology, drivers will be able to experience driving the Batmobile in their own personal vehicle. This will be accomplished by integrating the VR with Augmented Reality to give drivers an immersive Batman-driving experience.

Tech giant Intel released a statement about what they hope to accomplish with this VR program. Intel CEO Brian Krizanich had this to say:

“Warner Bros. and Intel imagine significant possibilities inside the AV space. Not only do we see passengers consuming content ranging from movies and television programming, we imagine riders enjoying immersive experiences never seen before, courtesy of in-cabin virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) innovations. For example, a fan of the superhero Batman could enjoy riding in the Batmobile through the streets of Gotham City, while AR capabilities render the car a literal lens to the outside world, enabling passengers to view advertising and other discovery experiences.”

The Realities of a VR Batmobile

While the potential of this sounds pretty cool, one must remember that this technology has a ways off. Companies have only really started creating automated cars. Furthermore, there is no self-driving car available for the consumer market yet. In other words, it could be a long while before we get the VR Batmobile experience.

Still, it would be awesome if/when this happens. Imagine transforming your commute in an exciting chase scene like in Batman Begins or The Dark Knight. How cool would it be to dodge cop cars or Penguin bombs when you drive to work? There are endless possibilities with the VR experience. It is just a shame it will be a long wait to see it.

There is no set date yet for the VR Batmobile project.
