New Preview for ‘Gotham’ S04E06 Introduces Professor Pyg

With Gotham chugging full steam into season 4, a ton of villains are being introduced. First, we have the definitive Scarecrow, Jonathan Crane, and then, last week, Butch Gilzean was resurrected as Solomon Grundy. For those who are somehow unaware of the happenings of Gotham, Butch was shot in the head last season and it was revealed that his birth name is Cyrus Gold, which was the original identity of Grundy prior to his resurrection.

And there are definitely more villains for the GCPD to contend with,

A new promo for the newest episode premiering this week, entitled “Hog Day Afternoon,” was released yesterday. And as the name suggests, hinted at by the showrunners last summer, Professor Pyg will be introduced. The Fox marketing team deserves a lot of merit as this is one of several promos I’ve seen that are really, really good.

See how they run…

Check it out below:

One of the better previews that Gotham has released as of late. However, I was little perplexed by the use of “Three Blind Mice,” as it doesn’t quite work with Professor Pyg’s character, but the eerieness is effectively established. With the liberties being taken here, I suppose there they will incorporate the nursery rhyme into his character somehow.

And now, I must address the elephant in the room. They’ve taken liberties with the Professor Pyg’s modus operandi. For those who don’t know, Pyg is obsessed with perfecting the imperfections in his victims, making them into genderless, faceless automatons to do his bidding. Calling them Dollotrons, Pyg grafts a doll’s face over his victims. It’s pretty gruesome stuff and likely not fit for television. Instead, they’ve went the obvious route with the pigs heads instead. Not a bad choice, considering the fact that his normal backstory would likely be a little too difficult for the casual viewer to swallow.

Definitely worth checking out this Thursday to see how they exactly will adapt the villain. Professor Pyg will be played by Michael Cerveris, a Tony award-winning actor known for his turn on Fringe.

Check out the description of the upcoming episode below:

Gordon and Bullock are hot on a serial killer who has been assassinating cops and dressing his victims in the severed heads of pigs as his signature mark. Meanwhile, Sofia tries to win over Penguin, and Thompkins, Nygma and Grundy find themselves an unlikely home at Cherry’s place in the all-new “A Dark Knight: Hog Day Afternoon” episode of GOTHAM airing Thursday, Oct. 26 (8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT) on FOX
