Long ago, Gwen Stefani had life figured out:
Per Variety, WB is developing a Joker and Harley Quinn movie, with Jared Leto and Margot Robbie reprising their roles from Suicide Squad. This is Us directors and executive producers Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are in final negotiations to helm the picture. They also directed the romantic comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love, which I find ironic in this case.
The trade also says the movie will be part of the DC Extended Universe, and will come before the already announced Gotham City Sirens, which who knows what’s happening to that. Oh, and one more thing, it’s not connected to the in-development Joker Origin movie just announced.
Good Lord! This week it’s been Affleck, Scorsese/Philips/Joker and now Leto and Robbie. Is everyone at WB on something this week? You can’t turn toward the internet without something popping up about our DC characters on film. By the time you finish reading this post, another movie will be “in development” while four more get announced.
I’m kidding…sort of.
Here’s my take: WB, stop announcing movies. Just take a break. Their announcements don’t mean much to me anymore and shouldn’t to you either. How many of these “announced” DC films have come to fruition? I’m glad they have all of these ideas and want to utilize their assets, some of the greatest characters in fiction. But fans are getting excited and then ultimately let down when a project doesn’t pull through. The studio should know this, even though it’s normal for projects not pulling through all the time. Films involving these characters are a different story though and it ultimately ends up embarrassing, and hurts WB’s credit.
Say the studio knows this, and it’s leakers revealing all of these details. Well then, it’s up to us fans to keep our emotions in check. Sites all over the internet want clicks, so they’re fishing anywhere they can with the biggest bait to snag any piece of DC info. They’re the ones adding to the pressure of each project, before anything becomes concrete. As a loyal DKN reader (as I assume you are), use your noggin. This movie is “in development”. Scripts aren’t finished. Actors aren’t cast (officially). Cameras aren’t rolling. A lot can happen before the first day of shooting.
With the Joker involved, not everything is going to go as planned.
