‘Justice League’ Reshoots Head Towards The Light

The first installment of the Justice League is due in November, and one of the questions people have been asking is “How will the movie look and feel?” After the lukewarm critical reception to Batman v Superman, there was speculation that director Zack Snyder was asked to deliver a lighter movie.

Joss Whedon has recently taken over the final stages of production as Snyder stepped down following a family issue. Whedon’s responsibilities are thus far unconfirmed but are reported to include some quite extensive reshoots but aside from a few photos on social media, only a few minute details were given about his involvement in the final film.

Actor Joe Morton in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

During an interview with IGN.com Joe Morton, (who plays Cyborg’s father in the film) he alluded to the fact that Whedon may be heading in a slightly lighter direction.

“Well, the stuff that I had to do were just really small little bits and pieces, nothing necessarily having to do with tone. I know that with Ray, the young man who plays Victor, there were some adjustments that they made in terms of the tone of that character.”

He added:

“I think what I heard was that there was a need from the studio to lighten up the film in a way, that the film felt too dark. I don’t know what that meant in terms of how it actually got translated in terms of the reshoots, but that’s what I heard. That’s what I thought some of the reshoots were about.”

Passing The Torch?

Just how much of Whedon’s vision makes it into Justice League is unknown. We do know that he has replaced the original soundtrack composer Junkie XL with Danny Elfman. There have also been many reports that his reshoots are reshaping the film quite significantly. With Snyder’s hold on the DC Cinematic Universe reported not to be as tight as it once was, and Joss Whedon developing a Batgirl movie for Warner Bros, could Justice League be signaling a changing of the guard?
