Review: Bane: Conquest #3

“The Sword,” Part Three

Writer: Chuck Dixon

Artist: Graham Nolan

(Minor spoilers ahead)

Two unlikely allies are left with no other option: they must work together to escape a prison. That basically summarizes the action found in this month’s Bane: Conquest #3. Bane takes a hit from his venom, Batman suits up, and the bad guys get hurt. The only difference between the two “teammates” is that one wants to serve justice while the other just wants to exterminate. I’ll let you decide which is which.

This month’s issue is an improvement upon the previous two.  It’s a quick read with some good action and spot-on banter between Bane and Batman. The most intriguing aspect is seeing how each man gets through the prison, and how different their mentalities are. However, they reach the same result, achieving their goal so to speak, but take the issue out of the prison and tease an adventure for the next issue.

Perhaps nobody knows Bane better than his creators, Chuck Nixon and Graham Nolan. I have to admit, I was questioning the title after reading the first two issues (meh at best). This one though left an impression on me. It was  fun and the art was stylized and somewhat nostalgic to those early Bane stories of the ’90s.

Conclusion

Overall, Bane: Conquest #3 delivers the goods. Flowing dialogue, great fights, fun art and a sense of direction give you plenty to justify for your money.
