Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Batman-centric DC event Dark Night: Metal promises the return of a DC hero.
DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Dan DiDio teased the event in an interview with Syfy Wire. He mentioned that a number of heroes will be featured in the summer event. Of the heroes featured will be Hawkman, who recently just died. Didio on Hawkman:
We’ve just recently killed Hawkman. So you’re wondering, ‘How is he going to be in this?’ Well, that ‘Death of Hawkman’ actually leads very nicely into the events that take place in ‘Metal,’ and actually, hopefully to bigger and better things afterward.”
The Many Deaths of Hawkman
Hawkman literally died last month in Death of Hawkman #6. In the comic, he was vaporized into nothingness by Despero. If his death is a part of a bigger plan for Metal, then that is fine. However, this is not the first time this has happened. Hawkman also was killed and subsequently resurrected at the start of 2009’s DC crossover Blackest Night. What could Synder be planning to link Batman to Hawkman in Metal? We have no idea. But even if there is a plan, it feels silly that Hawkman seems to get the short end of it. Hawkman seems to have a long history of dying, including on the television show Legends of Tomorrow. His many deaths are now approaching cartoonish levels of ridiculousness. Hopefully, Synder and Capullo can make something of Hawkman when he comes back. To see Dido’s interview with SyFy Wire, check out the video below.
