Batgirl is getting her own movie.
According to Variety, Joss Whedon is nearing a deal to direct, write and produce a solo Batgirl film as part of the DC Extended Universe. Not much is known at this time other than Toby Emmerich (president and CCO of Warner Bros. Pictures), Jon Berg and Geoff Johns are overseeing the movie’s development.
Good News Keeps Coming
This is great news for Warner Bros., DC, and DC fans and also follows recent good news coming out of the DCEU. Matt Reeves is directing the next Batman solo movie, Chris McKay is in talks for Nightwing, and Matthew Vaughn is apparently talking about Superman.
Whedon is no stranger to superhero movies. In case anyone has forgotten, he directed perhaps the biggest superhero of all time in 2012’s The Avengers as well as its 2015 follow up The Avengers: Age of Ultron. He also isn’t a stranger to developing a kickass leading lady, having helmed the TV series Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Whedon is a wonderful writer, producer and director and is perfectly capable of delivering a true-to-form Batgirl/Barbara Gordon that fans have been craving for years.
