Joe Manganiello Says “Maybe” to Playing Deathstroke in Batman Solo Movie

It seems like a lot of uncertainty is currently surrounding the Batfleck-led solo Batman project. Batfleck was one of the more celebrated aspects of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Warner Bros. seemed excited about pushing out a new Batman solo movie with Ben Affleck in the lead. It was quickly announced that Affleck would co-write with Geoff Johns and direct.

With every single news outlet hounding him about it, Affleck gave so many vague answers that left most fans pessimistic about it. Then, came the huge bomb that Affleck had stepped down as director. Thankfully, a few weeks later, Matt Reeves jumped into the director’s chair to hopefully save the day. With Reeves reportedly maintaining creative control over the project, rumors have been spreading that a brand new script was in the works.

However, while Affleck was at the helm, it was announced that Deathstroke would be the villain to appear in the flick and it was to be played by Joe Manganiello. With the script being written from scratch, where does that leave Manganiello’s Deathstroke? Personally, I assumed that he’d be in it.

Will he or won’t he?

Manganello appeared on a local morning talk show, Pittsburgh Today Live, to promote his role in the new Smurfs movie. There, they asked him about it, and he didn’t seem certain. His exact answer: “Um, maybe. We’ll see.” It was quickly dismissed and the subject was immediately switched back to the Smurfs movie.

Check out the video below. The brief exchange can be found at the 5 minute and 36 second mark.

There’s a couple possibilities that can be read from this. He could be just as clueless as we are regarding his future in the solo Batman feature, or he’s just not at liberty to say.

Obviously, this doesn’t instill a whole lot of confidence. I’m not particularly attached to Deathstroke, but it is a little alarming that this change in personnel brought that much confusion. Stay tuned to DKN, we’ll be sure to update you as any news surfaces.

What do you think? Are you worried about the state of Deathstroke in the movie? Do you believe he’s still going to be in it? Let me know.
