‘Batman v Superman’ and ‘Zoolander 2’ Leading Razzie Nominations

It’s that time of year again – The Razzie Awards. 2017 marks the 37th anniversary of the event, with the first taking place in the living room of publicist John J. B. Wilson on March 31, 1981. For those who don’t know, The Golden Raspberry Awards (or The Razzie’s for short) honor the worst that film has to offer. This year, Warner Bros. Batman v Superman has been nominated for an astounding(ly awful) eight categories. They include: Worst Picture, Worst Actor (Ben Affleck), Worst Supporting Actor (Jesse Eisenberg), and Worst Director, among others.

While fans of this film may be scratching their heads and wondering why, there is a “silver lining” (if could call it that): Batman v Superman doesn’t hold the highest number of nominations – that title goes to Zoolander 2. Another silver lining is that neither of these films – even if they “win” in every category – will come close to being record-breakingly bad in the history of The Razzies. In 2011, for the 32nd Annual Razzie Awards, Adam Sandler’s film Jack and Jill was nominated in and won all 10 categories. At least Zack Snyder isn’t on track to become the next Adam Sandler… right?

The “awards ceremony” takes place at 12am PST on February 25, 2017 – just one day before the Academy Awards.
