Ben Affleck’s Batman movie is coming.
This isn’t news. Many of us figured this would be happening when Affleck was cast as the Dark Knight for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film is happening, but the push by Warner Bros., news outlets, and fans has been ridiculous to get any scoop on when that film starts shooting. Last week, it was reported that Justice League 2 was being pushed back to make way for Affleck’s Batman movie.
The Batman Begins
Variety chatted with the actor/writer/director about his new film, Live By Night, and obviously, the subject came up. Affleck implied that filming for The Batman (tentative title) will start in the Spring. Affleck said, “We’re on the right track with that and everything is coming together. We’re still finishing up a script. I’m very excited.”
He also brought up what it’s like following such successful interpretations of the Caped Crusader.
“Christopher Nolan did an incredible job, Christian Bale did an incredible job, Tim Burton did an incredible job. At a certain point, you have to look forward and try to believe in your own vision for it and not be looking over your shoulder the whole time. I go into that movie with a tremendous amount of respect for the people who came before me.”
First thing’s first. Take some advice from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze:
We know Affleck is going to bring his best to our beloved character. It doesn’t matter when we hear the announcement. It doesn’t matter how long until the movie is released. All that matters is we get one badass Batman movie. Period.
If I were Affleck, I would frankly be sick of the questions. He is an artist who has other projects he wants to work on. Not to mention, provide the time, care, and intelligence to his stamp on the Batman mythos. Isn’t that what we want? Why would we feel the need to push him to make a sub-par product?
Patience is rewarded. If we give Affleck (you know, the perfect hands for our favorite superhero to be in) the time to write/act/direct (perhaps) one of his biggest films, we’ll get exactly what we want: The Batman.
