“I Am Suicide” part one! Batman has always been crazy…but this? This is suicide! In order to retrieve Psycho-Pirate and save Gotham Girl, Batman must recruit a team from Amanda Waller to break into the most impenetrable prison in the world and steal from one of the Dark Knight’s greatest foes…Bane. The next great Batman story begins here!
For those who have been following the Batman title, you know issue #6 (read our review here) ended on an exciting note. After this month’s “Night of the Monster Men” tie-ins (read those first reviews here and here), we’ll pick up right where that ending left off. It seems Batman is creating a “Suicide Squad” to save Gotham Girl. That seems exciting and if any of the first-look images (see below) indicate anything, it’s going to be a dark ride.
Writer Tom King sounds excited about this next big story, especially when he emphasizes the importance of Psycho Pirate.
“He plays a huge part in CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS. That’s where I was first introduced to him. He’s the guy who kills Barry Allen! So he’s played a role in the DCU for years. And then Grant Morrison took him into ANIMAL MAN and made him the one character in all of DC continuity who can remember the Multiverse. He remembers what happened beforehand. So he has both those aspects of him—he’s played a key role in this huge crossover and he also has this bizarre memory. He’s this huge character…and he’s a wimp. He’s a nobody! He’s terrible. He’s always manipulated by other people.”
Now he’s got me all fired up! Batman #9 kicks off the new “I Am Suicide” arc on October 19th.
