Although Christopher Nolan has ended his story of Bruce Wayne and a new cinematic version of the character has risen, is it possible that we could see Nolan’s version of Selina Kyle make it back to the silver screen? If Anne Hathaway had her way, she would.Hathaway has been pretty vocal since she played Gotham City’s most famous cat burglar in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises that she had an amazing time playing the sometimes love interest, sometimes anti-hero, sometimes villain of Batman and would love to take another crack at the character. In an interview with Variety at the Toronto Film Festival, where she is starring in the upcoming sci-fi thriller Colossal, Hathaway had this to say:
“I loved that character and I had such a blast playing her. I’m not sure how it would work because I think the Chris Nolan chapter of the Batman story has been wrapped up and I’m part of that, but I love the DC Universe and it would be fun to take a trip back.”
With the DC Extended Universe now three films in, that includes a veteran Batman with an established rogues gallery, it’s safe to assume he’s already had his own run ins with his own Catwoman once or twice. When asked if she was possessive of the role, Hathaway says:
“I don’t think you can, it sort of goes with the territory when you accept it and receive it from the last Catwoman. I was shown such generosity from Halle (Barry) and from Michelle (Pfeiffer), and so I would do that the next time as well.”
If Anne has her wish, it wouldn’t be the first Catwoman movie to be made. Catwoman (2004) was originally intended to be a spinoff of 1992’s Batman Returns and continue the story of Michelle Pfeiffer’s character that appeared in the film. However, production issues, delays, and rewrites unfortunately gave us the Halle Barry feature film that we all try to forget about today.
I for one would love a story that takes place in the eight years between The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises to see what Selina was up to and how she got into so much trouble with the League of Shadows when we first meet her. What do you think? Would you like to return to Nolan’s universe one last time for a spinoff movie about the Cat? Who would you like to see take on the character in the DCEU? Let us know!
