With the International Comic-Con in San Diego already behind us, fans are looking forward to New York Comic Con for their next convention fix. The floodgates are open, and one exclusive figure has already been announced. Square Enix announced a brand new black and white Play Arts Kai Superman figure to be featured at their NYCC booth. Here’s what they had to say:
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice depicts the clash of two iconic heroes in the DC Comics universe. Now SUPERMAN joins the fray as a Play Arts KAI action figure! We’ve highlighted the noble, classically heroic characteristics of SUPERMAN, in striking contrast with BATMAN’s complex dark aspect. The chest and cape utilize flexible materials, creating a wide range of motion. SUPERMAN’s iconic take-off and landing poses are easily recreated. We’ve paid special attention to the fine details, keeping close accuracy to the design of the character in the film, such as the small Kryptonian insignia etched into the waist of his suit. The finishing touches are his accessories, including expressive interchangeable hands, and a face piece that features his powerful heat vision. All this and more make this figure a superb depiction of SUPERMAN.
This New York Comic Con 2016 Exclusive is rendered in grayscale, a long-requested paint variant from fans of the PLAY ARTS KAI line. The black and white coloring evokes Superman’s black and white film serials, while still highlighting the sleekness and dynamism of his modern design in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
While they are calling this a New York Comic Con Exclusive, it appears some version of it will be available for pre-order for a limited time on their website. The price of this figure, which is sized approximately W 8.3” x D 3.1” x H 10”, is currently set at $149.99
