Review: Green Arrow #4

Writer: Benjamin Percy

Artist: Juan Ferreyra

Some Spoilers Ahead

We’re four issues into the latest run of Green Arrow and I already feel like I’m starting to run out of ways to say how great it is. As a critic, that’s not something I should say, but Benjamin Percy consistently gives us solid gold twice a month. I can only hope DC fans at large are taking notice because anyone not partaking is truly missing out.

Percy’s dynamite script compounded with Juan Ferreyra’s art makes for such fluid visual storytelling that I was hard pressed not to think I was reading a motion comic. Ferreyra delivers page after page of perfection, making this one of the most visually striking books on shelves today. Seriously, I wanted to stare at the images for hours, but I have stuff to accomplish.

I must say that I really enjoyed seeing Oliver Queen and John Diggle finally come together. Things are a little rocky at first, but Diggle settles his score while giving a nod to a certain scene from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. They really shine in the final pages, but I’m not going to get ahead of myself too much.

Although her name isn’t in the title of the book, Black Canary is most assuredly the co-star. The scene with her infiltrating a ship is one of the clear highlights of this issue. It’s been documented that I didn’t like her recent solo title and, if she ever gets another one, retain the spirit of this book and how she’s portrayed.

As Ollie’s family life grows evermore complicated, we see the true horror of what the Ninth Circle is capable. It’s all leading toward a big confrontation between Team Arrow (yes, I’m calling it that and thankfully it’s missing a Felicity) and the grotesque cabal. I’m sure Percy and company won’t disappoint.
