Suicide Squad is now less than 3 weeks away and is tracking to have an enormous opening weekend. Box office analysts are forecasting the Warner Bros. and DC film to open to $125 million in its North American debut for the August 5 – 7 weekend. Some analysts are saying it could even potentially hit the $135 million or more mark, but it is too early to tell.
Warner Bros. and DC Film have to be pleased with the early positive buzz the film is getting, especially after how mixed the response was to Batman v Superman, there was worry that it might affect the performance of Suicide Squad.
If the box office tracking is accurate, Suicide Squad will have no problem breaking the record for an August opening that is currently held by Disney and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which ironically has a similar vibe of not so nice people teaming up to fight a greater evil.
While there is positive buzz around this movie and the opening weekend box office numbers are tracking well, this doesn’t call for celebrations just yet for Warner Bros. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opened to a monster weekend of $166 million in North America, but saw a record drop off in its second weekend and didn’t have the legs to reach the $1 billion mark that WB was expecting (it ended at $872.7 million globally). With Suicide Squad being just the third film in establishing a DC cinematic universe, it needs to do more than have just a strong opening weekend to keep audiences interested in coming back for more.
Featuring our first cinematic Harley Quinn and Killer Croc, our newest onscreen Joker in Jared Leto, and the first time Batman has appeared in two feature films in the same year, Suicide Squad opens on August 5th. To make sure you are able to see it opening weekend, tickets are on sale now!
