Now that you’ve read the headline, I think there is some clarification in order. By the Avengers, I mean the classic spy team of Emma Peel and John Steed (not the other ones). With that out of the way, we can press forward with the news. DC Comics’ popular Batman ’66 series has been going strong since the comic first released in 2013. Colorful, comical, and true to the feel of the 1960s television show, Batman ’66 has made its money on fun story lines and classic team ups.
The newest team up will involve none other than the spy-duo The Avengers, based on the hit British spy fiction television series from 1961. Another cult hit out of the 1960s only feels right to have a team up with the dynamic duo of Batman and Robin. Ultra-famous comic writer Ian Edginton had this to say to The Guardian:
“I’ve never had to write anything like this – it has always had to be tempered with a sombre tone. But this is just fun. People were actually killed in The Avengers whereas Batman was ostensibly a children’s show. I had a Venn diagram with Batman in one circle, The Avengers in the other and in that little overlap is where I am playing.”
Batman ’66 has always provided a more hilarious version of Batman and Robin, staying true to the tone of the 1960s mega hit series. This new team up series, which will release digitally starting this month and in print next month, looks to add another layer of fun to the mix. Ian Edginton certainly seems to have had a blast working on it.
“It has been one of the best, fun jobs that I have ever done.”
