Batman v Superman: Extended Cut Runtime Confirmed

While it’s been long rumored that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice would have a much longer extended cut when it hit Blu-ray & DVD, these things have more or less been speculation up to this point. We all knew it to be true, but it’s nice to have official confirmation that the extended cut of Batman v Superman will be three hours long, clocking in at exactly 181 minutes.

The extended cut will indeed be rated R, will pad out many of the story lines and subplots that did not get room to breathe, including some that were cut out completely. In particular, this version will restore Jena Malone’s part in the film, which was completely cut from the theatrical version.

I would not expect a more extreme version of the film simply because it’s rated R. With the MPAA, that could range from everything from another shot of blood to another F-word, to simply a scene being “very intense.” We’ll all have to stay tuned to see just exactly what this version will entail.

While it was initially reported that the release date for this edition would be July 16th, no date has been officially announced.
