DKN Recommends: DC Comics Previews for June 2016 (Rebirth)

You have probably heard by now that DC Comics will give its lineup of books a serious creative shakeup this summer when the Rebirth initiative kicks off in June. With many titles rolling back to #1 and Detective Comics and Action Comics returning to original numbering, readers will have much to add to their collection in the very near future.

This week, a special Previews catalog arrived in comic shops at the cost of free. For a low price of nothing, you can not only check out covers and solicits for everything DC has hitting shelves in June, but also some never before seen artwork and interviews with the books’ creators.

Since I’m not going to reprint 96 pages worth of content, I will at least drop some information regarding books key to Batman’s corner of the DC Universe. This site is called “Dark Knight News,” after all. I will, however, say that I’m really looking forward to reading Action Comics, Superman, Green Lanterns, and The Flash, so make sure to read further about those titles when you pick up this tome.

As for some of the more notable Bat books, here we go:

  • Batman – Tom King (w), David Finch & Mikel Janin (a): As Bruce Wayne once again takes up the mantle of Batman and the status quo becomes a bit more familiar, a new hero shows up in Gotham named Gotham. Seriously. He looks to dethrone the Dark Knight in the book’s first five-issue arc.
  • Detective Comics – James Tynion IV (w), Eddy Barrows & Eber Ferreira (a): In a sort of team-up book, Batman and Batwoman tutor the likes of Red Robin, Spoiler, Orphan, and Clayface. It sounds like this one will have no shortage of drama and excitement.
  • All-Star Batman – Scott Snyder (w), John Romita Jr. & Others (a): This book looks to be a limited run and features a great crop of guest artists as Snyder explores Two-Face and other notable Batman villains in depth.
  • Justice League – Bryan Hitch (w), Tony Daniel (a): DC’s premier superhero team consisting of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman, and Green Lanterns Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz engage in large scale adventures that only a Justice League book can deliver.
  • Nightwing – Tim Seeley (w), Yanick Paquette (a): Dick Grayson is back in black and blue, baby! Follow the original Boy Wonder as he takes on the Parliament of Owls.
  • Batgirl and the Birds of Prey – Julie and Shawna Benson (w), Claire Roe (a): The team of Batgirl, Huntress, and Black Canary hunt down a villainous new Oracle.
  • Suicide Squad – Rob Williams (w), Jim Lee & Philip Tan (a): Harley Quinn gets into more deadly hijinx with the worst heroes ever.
