This past weekend, Batman v Superman’s worldwide box office total surpassed the total gross of recent comic book movie hits like Deadpool and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Batman v Superman made $23,435,000 domestically to add to its worldwide gross of $783,485,542, exceeding Deadpool’s $755 million, Amazing Spider-Man’s $758 million, and Guardians of the Galaxy’s $773 million. In addition, Batman v Superman beat Man of Steel’s domestic total of $291 million, making it now the highest grossing movie starring Superman.
However, there is a downside to these record box office numbers. Batman v Superman suffered another 58% audience drop-off in its third weekend. This drop-off, combined with the huge 70% drop-off from the previous week indicates that the film will have an uphill climb to the coveted $1 billion landmark.
The film is projected to cross the $800 million box office mark within the next week. It is also projected to finish somewhere between $800 million to $1 billion at the global box office.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is now playing in theaters.
