New Clips from ‘Gotham’ S2E7, ‘Mommy’s Little Monster’

For the most part, I’ve been enjoying Gotham. The writers have thrown out any pretense of it being a cop drama or a procedural, and have gone pretty over-the-top comic book. I mean, did you see The Merc? It’s an illegal weapons dealer, but they played it like a grocery store. How absurd can you get?

Even then, with declining ratings and consistently mediocre reviews, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be around for much longer.

Well, some of us can still enjoy it while it’s on the air. Tomorrow, episode 7 of season 2, “Mommy’s Little Monster,” is airing and we’ve got the description and some preview clips for it.

Butch leads Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) and his men to the warehouse where Gertrude (Carol Kane) is being held, as Penguin plots his revenge on Galavan (James Frain) for kidnapping his mother. Meanwhile, Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) deals with the aftermath of a deadly accident.

Both of those plotlines are slightly spoiled in the following clips. Check them out below.

It seems like Butch is finally free of Penguin’s control. It was a little predictable considering how Penguin was taking far too much advantage of it. I don’t like Penguin being that weak. Sure, Penguin sort of deserved it from Mooney a few times for being far too smart and smug for his own good, but at this point in time, it’s tough seeing him so helpless when he is extremely cunning. It’s pretty clear that they’re not going to eliminate Robin Lord Taylor any time soon, so Oswald’s likely going to get out of this predicament. It seems like Galavan is just toying with him anyhow.

What the Gotham writers are implying with this clip is that the Riddler is not necessarily the nerdy, riddle-loving underdog to whom we’ve become attached, but his alter-ego. It’s still incredibly satisfying to see that question-mark envelope sitting on his bed. Will this Nygma take over his body and become the Riddler?

It looks like Selina is more attached to Bruce than she’s willing to admit, if we’re finding her in Wayne Manor, slightly jealous of the worthier suitor, Silver St. Cloud. And yet another extremely cold and calculating member of the Galavan family. That’s getting a little tired. Jerome’s barely contained insanity really was refreshing by comparison.

Gotham airs tomorrow, November 2nd, on Fox at 8PM EST.
