Another Major Villain Teased for ‘Gotham’ Season 2

As we draw closer toward the premier of Gotham‘s sophomore season, the showrunners and cast continue to spill more details on what to expect. In an interview with TV Guide, executive producer Danny Cannon talks in particular about the show’s seemingly original new villain Theo Galavan, who will be played by James Frain.

Not much has been revealed about Galavan since the casting announcement, but Cannon explains that “This season is about how one man will unleash and empower the villains and make them understand that they are more powerful than the people fighting against them.” He goes on to add that “They are the pioneers for Gotham. They are the ones who will change things because with chaos and destruction is the only way you can build. You can’t rebuild a city without first destroying it.”

Galavan will at first appear to be a charming and altruistic savior, according to CBR. However, both he and his sister Tabitha hold a centuries-old vendetta against the city of Gotham.

Cannon confirms that Galavan is the “origin of a very famous DC villain” and one who often uses other villains to fulfill his goals. This could be anyone from Ra’s al Ghul (likely, given the description of his motivation), Hugo Strange or even Bane. It’s hard to tell at this point. But we’ll keep you updated as more news drops about this mysterious new villain.

Gotham season two premieres September 21st at 8pm.
