Ben McKenzie Talks Gotham

Jim Gordon is ready to step it up in Gotham.

The first season of the FOX drama Gotham was a mixed bag of sorts for viewers. The show started with good numbers, modest reviews and even drew in some fanboys (there were also many who steered clear). As the season went on, the viewers started spending their time elsewhere and the first season seemed to end in a bit of a whimper.

Actor Ben McKenzie, who plays Detective Gordon, sat with Entertainment Weekly to share his thoughts on the past, and future, of the FOX drama.

“I think we made a mistake relatively early on in trying to introduce a villain and take care of that villain in one episode: catch them, send them to Arkham, do whatever. That was just a mistake. We should’ve never done it.”

The GCPD (his #1 line on the show) are in for some more challenging villains this time around though, and fans shouldn’t be disappointed.

“The audience really wants to understand who these people are and live with them, sit with them and enjoy them. Whether they’re evil or good, they are entertaining. So that’s what we’re doing in season 2. [It’s] really kick ass. I think it’s exactly what the fans want to see.”

Gotham premieres its second season Monday, September 21 on FOX.
