Azrael’s Role in ‘Arkham Knight’ and Dual Play Explained

Azrael returns in Arkham Knight

In the first episode of the “Arkham Insider” web series that takes viewers behind the scenes of the upcoming game, writer Martin Lancaster and animator Adam Vincent break down the latest trailer. As they do this, they explain details of the game’s dual play feature as well as the role of the mysterious Azrael to the overall story.

Dual Play allows players to bring in assistance from the Bat Family in combat or predator mode. Says Lancaster, “You can seamlessly switch between the two characters, whether it’s Nightwing, Robin, Catwoman.” Talking in more detail, he explains, “We’re able to build these relationships, not just through the cinematic sequences, but right through the gameplay and through every aspect of the game.”

“You can do some really cool stuff, you can beat down on a thug as one character, change to the other character, the AI guy finishes the beat down off,” adds Vincent.

On the return of Azrael, Lancaster says, “He appeared at the end of Arkham City, he laid down this prophecy and now it’s come into fruition. The city’s in ruins. The villains have taken over.” He goes on to add, “He sees himself as Gotham’s new protector. Gotham needs a new kind of justice. Obviously Batman’s not ready to give up the cowl.”

Batman: Arkham Knight will be released June 23rd and will be available for PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One.
