Welcome to another Cosplay Profile, a recurring column in which DKN recognizes excellence in the field of cosplay. As I’ve said in the past, a cosplayer that really catches my eye is one who not only displays great craftsmanship, but also embodies the character(s) they portray. Another great quality is one where they visually reinterpret a character, yet don’t stray far from the original vision. Featured today is someone whom I feel meets all the above criteria.
Not too long ago, I became aware of Nana Doom Drops (or Nana Bear, if you prefer). Her impressive cosplays, sense of humor, and portrayals of a myriad of different characters are just some of the many reasons I became a fan of hers. She was kind enough to answer some questions for us and to let us showcase some pictures of her in DC themed outfits. Well, there is one not related to DC. I had to include a Marvel one because she just happens to be an awesome Black Cat!
DKN: When did you get into cosplay?
Nana: When I was 15.
DKN: Which characters have been your favorites to portray?
Nana: Umm, Naruto, Princess Bubblegum and Krillin.
DKN: Are there any characters that you hope to portray that you have yet to?
Nana: Slave Leia and a character from Diablo (laughs).
DKN: I’ve noticed that you sometimes reinterpret a character’s look. How do you approach such a situation and what is the process?
Nana: I like putting my own spice on my cosplays. I guess I just change something small and go from there.
DKN: What are some of your favorite Batman stories?
Nana: Umm, the Adam West show, Emperor Joker, and The Killing Joke.
