Collectively, as Batman fans and appreciators, we have seen a decent handful of Batmobile iterations on the big screen. We’ve seen the mysterious, sleek, and smart black vehicle in Batman: the Movie (1966), Batman (1989), Batman Returns (1992), Batman Forever (1995), Batman and Robin (1997), and The Dark Knight Trilogy (2005-2012), and we will soon view it in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) film.
Time changes things — people, characters, style, content, age, demographics, moral values, cultural understanding…and the Batmobile. Luckily, we have discovered this highly nifty little GIF image that showcases the filmic Batmobiles by way of visually morphing them in and out of one another, and thus, we can watch time figuratively enact change upon the Batmobile before our hungry eyes.
Indeed, we all have different preferences, perspectives, and perhaps biases regarding what the Batmobile should look like. Some people might say that it should engender fear in the hearts of those who would cruelly prey upon the fearful, and thus, the vehicle should possess a menacing physical appearance. Some might say that the only Batman he or she would merely consider was portrayed by Adam West, and that the rest of the films are too “dark.” Some want their finned-vehicle with a side of Bat-nipples (unfortunately, this joke will live long and prosper into the infinite reaches of eternity). Yet, whatever your perspective might be, it’s all Batman, indeed.
Enjoy the GIF, and have a pleasant day.
