Arkham Manor #3 Review

Synopsis: The refugees from Arkham Asylum think there’s safety in numbers – but not if one of them is Bane!

The latest issue of DC’s exciting experiment, Arkham Manor, dishes out another layer of mystery for the Dark Knight. The (former) Arkham inmates are huddled up, awaiting the arrival of a “connection” when Batman ruins the plans. Meanwhile, Bane discovers Poison Ivy has cast him under her spell but he doesn’t realize it until it’s too late. Eric Border finally sheds his work clothes to show us something we already know. And the Dark Knight continues his search for Zsasz.

Arkham Manor continues to add another level of mystery for our hero. I’d say for the first time in the (young) series, more takes place outside of the manor than inside. Batman has a few cool moments, Killer Croc gets his “Knightfall” revenge and Selina Kyle is one sneaky cat.

I like this series. Much more than I ever thought I would. It’s too early to tell if it’s a shame it will only last 6 issues, or if it will leave us hanging. I will admit, the story gets a little confusing between this, Eternal and Batman timelines shifting. A minor complaint from this guy who is actually reading all three titles.

Gerry Duggan continues the scripting duties for the issue while Shawn Crystal handles the sketchy dootles. A common thing for the non-main Batman titles: they can find some good artists. Between this title and Eternal, I’m witnessing the birth of a new generation of artists…and I’m loving it.

Overall, another good addition to this intriguing story. We have hit the halfway point and it will be an interesting 3 issues to see where it ends up… and how it affects the Bat-universe.
