Batman:Eternal #29 Review

 

 

 

Synopsis: Hell is bursting out of Arkham Asylum, and the only being that can stop it is The Spectre – but first he must stop himself from razing all of Gotham City!

  Batman:Eternal takes a few steps back this week, and I partially blame it for the main story it covers this week. Since issue #1, The Spectre made his appearance as Jim Corrigan and I was skeptical. Add Batwing into the mix in issue #6 only made things worse. I’m just not digging the Spectre/Batwing/Deacon Blackfire rising from hell mess that invades this epic story every few issues. For a Batman story, I can only handle a certain amount of supernatural… but this story line takes it WAY out there and I just can’t get into it.

Unfortunately that is basically the entire issue. We get a few shots of the Joker’s daughter (why?) that I don’t follow either and it’s just, ugh, not a good issue.

Ray Fawkes handled scripting duties this week, while Simon Coleby did the doodles. If there is a good thing coming out of issue #29, it’s the art. I think Coleby does a great job and though the story is eh, at best, the art is top-notch. Eternal is delivering some great art from people I’ve never heard of before. Good recruiting DC!

Overall, skip this issue as you won’t get that much out of it.
