While promotingnewbatfleck his new film Gone Girl (opening this weekend), Ben Affleck was asked the obligatory questions pertaining to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In a discussion with Josh Horowitz of MTV, the subject of Frank Miller’s definitive work The Dark Knight Returns was brought up, specifically how it will influence the film. Affleck had this to say:

“I will say that I think Zack was heavily influenced by that [Dark Knight Returns]. I think everyone’s heavily influenced by that. It’s the seminal work, right? I don’t think there’s any of these [Batman movies] that have been made without drawing from that book because it’s so good. And I think if you’re smart, you steal from the best.”

Keep in mind that this film is influenced by DKR and not an adaptation. I think too many people have been taking the phrase “influenced by” a bit too literally. When has any live action Batman film been a direct adaptation of any one comic book storyline?
