The Dark Knight was released six years ago, but its overall effectiveness is still as potent as ever. The relationship between Bale’s Batman and Ledger’s Joker will always be one of the most memorable, dark, and dynamically differentiated superhero conflicts to be presented via live-action film, while The Dark Knight‘s interrogation scene is indubitably one of its most important and exciting scenes, uniting the protagonist and antagonist in a closed environment in which Batman’s personal principles are tested by Joker’s deceitful scheming, psychotic genius, and sadomasochistic leanings.
Below, we have some previously unreleased and released on-set photos from the iconic interrogation scene, which, in an alternate universe, would be akin to a scene in which Batman and Joker sit in a cafe to sip coffee, discussing their differences like civilized gentlemen. Yet, the circumstances were far more dire, and Batman resorted to methods more brutally effective than the likes of mere discussion and coffee-sipping. Still, the Joker seemed to enjoy being punched and thrown around.
“You complete me.”
