Eisenberg Is A Complicated Luthor, But No One Understands Him But His Woman

Jesse Eisenberg recently sat down with Total Film to discuss his role as the villainous Lex Luthor in the upcoming film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Here’s what he had to say about his turn as the character and Chris Terrio’s script:

There are some indications of how the character should behave based on the script, and then an actor makes it his or her own. I got to know one of the writers Chris Terrio, and we were able to discuss things at length and figure out who this person is to create a real psychology behind what is, perhaps, in a comic book, a less than totally modern psychology. I can only say I’ve been asked to play an interesting role. A complicated, challenging person.

I really think that Eisenberg has the chops to pull off this role, Believe me, Lex Luthor is one of my favorite villains and I’m highly protective about his portrayal. Even if rumors such as him having a Google style office setup with a basketball court in the lobby, jittery mannerisms, and long hair turn out to be true, it’s really not much to cause concern. It’s believable that a 30 year old, self-made billionaire in today’s era would have an office environment such as that. If he has hair, he can always lose it. Heck, John Shea had hair during the first season of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and he was one of my favorite Luthors ever. As long as the psychology, ruthlessness, and hatred for Superman are present, we should be fine; aren’t those qualities the true essence of Luthor after all?

Kudos to the readers who understood the reference I made in my headline.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. It opens in theaters March 25, 2016.
