TV series Gotham gets David Zayas as Mob boss Sal Maroni

The TV series ‘Gotham’ on the FOX network has brought on board another big name in ‘Dexter’s’ David Zayas, who has been cast as mob boss Sal Maroni. The news broke originally from Deadline. The iconic villain in Sal Maroni is the one responsible for the downfall of Gotham’s white knight Harvey Dent, resulting in him becoming Harvey ‘Two-Face’. Maroni has appeared in plenty of the Batman comics and is most prominent in Christopher Nolan’s 2008 worldwide blockbuster ‘The Dark Knight’.

Gotham is a new origin story that will take us through an original set of events introducing Bruce Wayne as a child, including a host of criminals and underground figures that transform into Batman’s notorious villains later on. This style story has never been attempted before and while it doesn’t include Batman, it looks to give DC fans a different take on the franchise we have all come to love and that is in its 75th year of celebration.

The executive producer is Bruno Heller who was responsible for hit shows in“The Mentalist” and “Rome”. This show follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular superheroes of our time. Can you guess who that is?

The show will air on FOX September 22nd, staring Ben McKenzie, Sean Pertwee, Robin Lord Taylor, Zabryna Guevara, Erin Richards, Donal Logue, JadaPinkett Smith, David Mazouz and Camren Bicondova.
