‘Batman v Superman’ Footage From SDCC Will Not Be Released Online

If you saw images or even raw cell phone captured footage of the teaser for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that was shown over the weekend, consider yourself lucky. If you were one of the few to actually be there in person in Hall H in San Diego, more power to you. Despite what some may be saying, Warner Bros. will NOT be releasing an official HD clip online.

“That’s just going to live in that hall. We’ll post extended trailers and stills, but that presentation, that was just for those fans,” said Sue Kroll, president of worldwide marketing and international distribution for Warner Bros. Pictures, to Variety.

Let’s be honest: WB doesn’t need to release it. The word of mouth from those present or who saw the bootleg footage compounded with the Wonder Woman reveal made BvS the most talked about topic coming out of San Diego. It completely overshadowed Avengers: Age of Ultron and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 chatter. No matter if you have a DC or Marvel bias, that’s the honest truth. The amount of free press for this film is insane and WB knows it. To think that this film won’t have a gargantuan opening weekend is a grotesque miscalculation.

I’m sure we will get more teaser footage at SDCC 2015 with an official theatrical trailer #1 around Christmas 2015. The movie is still roughly two years away and people need to realize that this is actually a lot for a studio to show off for a film that is so far down the road. However, I do think it’s possible that we’ll see an official high resolution shot of the new photo of Affleck next to the Batmobile (a grainy one can be seen below). Yes, it’s the same one we got a headshot of last week, but it would be nice to see the whole thing.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. It opens in theaters May 6, 2016.
