Terry McGinnis and Future’s End

Terry McGinnis has had cameos in the comics once or twice before but this will be his first real canon appearance in the main universe.

Futures End is a new DC weekly title that’ll be a part of the New 52 in 2014 that explores the “past, present, and future” of the current iteration of the DC Universe, specifically five years into the future. Appearing in the new title will of course be the Tomorrow Knight, Terry McGinnis, the Batman of the future. However, this is not the Batman you see in Batman Beyond 2.0, the comic that explores the continuity of the TV show after it ended over a decade ago. The suit is the same and Terry is the man under the mask, but this is the New 52, and while there are similarities between this Terry and the one we all know, there will be differences. Brian Azzarello , writer of the new 52 run of Wonder Woman, stated why he needed Terry in this upcoming examination of the future of the Nu52.

I just needed a character from the future…and that was the only one I knew. I thought we needed a hook — we needed somebody big, and somebody that hadn’t really appeared in The New 52 yet. Since we were dealing with this jump into the future, it made sense to bring in Terry McGinnis…He’s got the same costume, I think. Is he different? Yes. It’s different, it’s New 52. It’s from a different sort of future. Is it going to be recognizable? Yes. Is he going to have differences? Yes, of course he’s going to have differences. I’m not going to tell you what they are.

We’ll see how Terry shapes up in the nu52 when the first look at the upcoming series previews in the Free Comic Book Day issue that DC will release this May with issue #0, and the proper #1 appearing later that month.
