NetherRealm Studios Developing Batman: Arkham Origins Brawler Mobile Game

It was recently announced that NetherRealm Studios is developing another free-to-play Batman brawler mobile game to coincide with Batman: Arkham Origins.

Mobile games have become particularly popular in recent years and by recently years, I’m going to go with the last 5-7 years because I honestly don’t know when they became so advanced and so popular. Hell, the last game I played ferociously on my phone was Bejeweled, so you can imagined how bewildered I was upon discovering big time devs were creating licensed games for mobile phones. It could also be due the fact that I’ve never had a phone powerful enough to run any of these games. Well, it looks there’s another game I won’t be able to run on my phone.

At the New York Comic-Con this weekend, the Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment panel announced that a free-to-play Batman: Arkham Origins mobile game is coming out soon for both the iOS and Android markets. NetherRealm Studios, the devs responsible for the DC fighter, Injustice: Gods Among Us, but more specifically the team behind Batman: Arkham City Lockdown, is behind this mobile version of Arkham Origins.

Apparently, it will be in the same vein of Arkham City Lockdown in that it’s a brawler game that utilizes taps and swipes to punch out foes. The game will set up the story presented in Arkham Origins, but will focus primarily on going 1-on-1 brawls and kicking the tar out of thugs and 4 out of 8 of the assassins we’ve heard so much about. As any other free-to-play game, you’ll be given the option to spend real-world money on points for upgrades and bonuses. They’re also teasing at some special exclusive content for owners of the console version who download this game, if you own a Warner Bros. ID. And Batsuits! Can’t forget those Batsuits. The Batman Beyond suit looks especially cool.

Check out the launch trailer above.  Though I had fun with the iOS version of Injustice, I eventually got bored of it because of the insane difficulty and uninteresting gameplay mechanic. Upon reading about this game, I was little apprehensive about it, until that launch trailer. You get to go first-person and punch the crap out of lowlifes. That’s pretty damn cool.

The game is expected to be released on the iOS around the launch of the console version, with an Android version following closer to the holidays.

What do you think? Do you think this will be a suitable companion to Arkham Origins? Let me know.
