Bleeding Cool’s Weekly Bestseller List shows us that Batman Zero Year has claimed the top spot, beating the new Superman Unchained. Click the jump see more.
Apparently, Bleeding Cool keeps track of comic book sales in select stores on a weekly basis. This week had a rather interesting result. Take a look:
1. Batman #21
2. Superman Unchained #1
3. Guardians of the Galaxy #3
4. Walking Dead #111
5. Wolverine & the X-Men #31
6. Thor God of Thunder #9
7. Star Wars #6
8. Savage Wolverine #6
9. Batgirl #21
10. True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys #1
Looks like despite the overwhelming buzz of Man of Steel, comic book readers managed to bring the Bats to the top. It makes me swell with pride for my fellow Batfans. On the downside, it’s a little disconcerting to only see 3 DC titles in the top 10. Taking all that in, this should not be a sample of the general comic book-reading audience as Bleeding Cool only polls a few select stores.
Still though, it is interesting to see how Batman still manages to claim the top when Superman has a live-action movie coming out. But I suppose there are many factors involved here, like general moviegoing audience being vastly different from the general comic book-reading audience or the anticipation in the comic book community over Scott Snyder’s Zero Year being probably more so overwhelming than the Man of Steel buzz.
Batman #21 is the beginning of the Zero Year arc, which will provide us with the New 52 origin story to Batman. It is written by Scott Snyder with pencils by Greg Capullo.
What do you think? Does it have something to do with the Zero Year? Or is it that some people just aren’t into Man of Steel? Let me know.
