With the highly anticipated fighting game featuring our favorite DC characters, Injustice: Gods Among Us, just a sneeze away from release, it seems Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment decided to finally reveal some gameplay footage for the villains Killer Frost and Ares. Click the jump to see the trailer.
About three weeks ago, the characters Killer Frost and Ares were confirmed as playable characters in Injustice: Gods Among Us, but there was lack of any official artwork or footage of those two characters. With a few days left until release, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment finally decided to let loose this little trailer:
To be completely honest, I’m not at all impressed with Killer Frost’s moveset. You’d think the studio that created Sub-Zero would be able to come up with something a little more imaginative, but I suppose they were too busy working on Ares. Ares is the one to watch here. He is every bit of a badass that you would expect as he pulls off some of the most violent moves exhibited so far in the game.
Considering how fluid and flexible fighting games have evolved into based on the three-dimensional playing field, it’s hard to really get excited about a side-scrolling fighting game developed with the limited mechanics of a Mortal Kombat game. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Mortal Kombat during it’s heyday. A couple of games in the franchise are among my favorite games of all time, but as technology progressed and with each new release of MK, I just started noticing how stiff the characters were and how the combos simply weren’t as free-flowing as other competing titles.
But being the DC fan that I am, of course I’m going to take notice when there’s a fighting game in development exclusively featuring DC characters. (Let’s face it, MK vs. DC Universe simply didn’t cut it.) Alas, there hasn’t really been a lick of promotional material or gameplay footage that has really moved me to consider purchasing the game let alone play it.
There is a ray of hope for me however, because I’ve been playing the recently released free-to-play iOS version and I’ve been having fun with it. Though I’m sure that the console version will be a whole different animal, it’s a start.
The game takes place in a world where Superman has officially taken control. This comes as a result of finally being pushed too far by, of course, the Joker, who destroyed Metropolis and fooled Supes into killing Lois Lane. Supes eventually crosses the line and kills the Joker once and for all. (Who could blame him?) Of course, there are still folks who are unwilling to fall prey to this world order. Batman and his Insurgency have been battling Supes’ Regime and it seems they have not had much success. Upon discovering another universe in which Joker’s plot did not succeed, the Insurgency begins recruiting superheroes from that world to help tip the scale in their favor against the Regime. The game is being developed by NetherRealm Studios, the creators of the popular Mortal Kombat series of games.
Are you happy that they were included in the game? How do you feel about their movesets so far? Let me know.
