BIRDS OF PREY #12 REVIEW: YOU’VE JUST SCREWED US!

RATING: Must Read Issue, very exciting and full of suspense!

I commend Duane Swierczynski for his writing on Birds of Prey; I wasn’t much of a fan for this comic book because I didn’t even budge to read this comic book at first. Now…total fan of Swierczynski’s work. I believe Birds of Prey always change their artists for each issue, I remember Jesus Saiz (previous artist) was the main artist for this comic book. However, there seems to be changes in the art nowadays. For right now, Cliff Richards is the artist for this issue and I must say I do not like how the women’s faces are looking so hard. I know they’re not supposed to be happy, but jeez each one of them has a hard mug on their face. Their chins and grimaces have such hard ink stokes, ugh.

Anyway, as always Swierczynski packs a punch with the suspense. I think he chose his plots wisely creating tension among the team members especially with Poison Ivy. Never trust the green bitch! I admire Poison Ivy’s cause to rid the world of pollution and to save Mother Earth, but damn she’s got a way of blackmailing the team at doing it. Starling continues to be an awesome original character that provides the team with comic relief and all around total bad ass attitude to do what is necessary. Canary is seriously starting to be weighed down by the team’s inability to work together and I do feel for her a lot. Batgirl continues to be self righteous character as always willing to correct the wrong that has befallen the team. I know good ole Batman will be lecturing the team after Poison Ivy gets her ass beat, but I think she’ll still be part of the team in the end. Despite Poison Ivy’s villainy, she’s a loyal ally and a decent human being who looks out for people.

Richards’ panels were filled with suspense and I did like his art direction. I’ll have to look up to see if he’s going to be Birds of Prey’s new artist for this comic book.

Check out some panels I thought was cool down below.
