DC Previews ‘Absolute Catwoman’

DC Comics provided more details on the upcoming spin-off series Absolute Catwoman.

Previously, DC announced the six-part mini-series that focuses on our favorite feline thief. Gone is Selina being a simple Robin Hood-esque cat burglar. Now she is involved in more heavy duty corporate heists. These heists can bring down entire companies and countries.

Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder and Bitch Planet writer Che Grayson will co-write the series together. Bengal will provide the art for the series. It will tease her backstory more, as well as a high-stakes heist mission. If nothing else, we will see what her connection is with Absolute Batman‘s first villain: The Black Mask.

Check out DC’s full description below.

Selina Kyle has carved a good life for herself. Through her ingenuity and skills, she has become the greatest thief the world has ever known. With high-tech gear and weaponry, there is no place too secure for Catwoman. But when someone from her past comes knocking at her door, everything she has built begins to collapse. To survive, Selina must unravel a mystery that takes her across the globe and deep into the shadows of the Absolute Universe.

Absolute Catwoman is the Thesis of the Absolute Universe

Amusingly, when describing the series, DC inverted the traditional taglines when the Absolute line introduces a new title. Like for Batman, it was: “Without the mansion…without the money…without the butler…what’s left is the Absolute Dark Knight!”

Or Absolute Green Lantern had the tag of: “Without the Corps… without the ring…Without the Willpower, what’s left is the Absolute Green Lantern!”

But they went the opposite route for Catwoman where she has all of the support in the world.

With all the wealth…with all the gear…with all the skills, she is the Absolute Apex Predator!

What an amazing statement about the Absolute universe. It was supposed to be an inverted world created by Darkseid’s energy where all of the heroes have none of the support to help them. This only makes them fight even harder to be true heroes. But, the Absolute universe rewards evil or at least self-interests. Which is why the Joker is a billionaire CEO or the Justice League is a cabal of the most evil businessmen.
Catwoman is also a part of the trend where she has all of the breaks. But the question is… will her morality win out in the end? Or will the rewards and gains be too tempting for her?
Absolute Catwoman #1 hits comic shops on June 10th.
